Réveillon Dinners, New Orleans-style

Reveillon Dinners, New Orleans-styleWith December fast approaching, so comes the holidays. Here in New Orleans, one of the main ways we celebrate the holiday season is with delicious food. Dining is practically a city-wide pastime. Therefore it's only appropriate that some of our best restaurants offer special Réveillon dinner menus this time of year.

Réveillon is a historically French celebration traditionally centered around the Christmas Eve and New Years Eve dinner meals. While the Christmas Eve meal usually celebrates the Christian faith, the New Year's Eve version is more about people celebrating with friends, family and loved ones. A classic Réveillon meal is large, luxurious and extravagant. While typically celebrated in the home in other countries, Réveillon is most often celebrated in restaurants here in New Orleans.

With our rich French heritage, it's natural that Réveillon plays a meaningful role in New Orleans holiday dining celebrations.  Many restaurants offer multi-course dinners throughout the month of December, not only on Christmas and New Years Eves. Menus typically range from $30 to $60 for a four course meal, although most are $45 and above. Thirteen of our favorite restaurants are participating in the Réveillon dinner celebration this year:

Special seasonal delights such as velvety turtle soup, rich bouillabaisse, hearty gumbo, roasted duck, grilled steak and creamy crème brûlée liberally grace these menus. A few restaurants like the Pelican Club and Tujague's even offer lagniappe items such as a glass of wine or special treat from the chef. Most interestingly, the Crescent City Brewhouse is offering beer pairing with their menu. While not in the traditional Réveillon style, it pairs very well with the spirit of New Orleans.

Réveillon is a great way to celebrate the holiday season with loved ones. Please contact each individual restaurant for reservation, pricing and menu information. With the celebration lasting longer than just the two traditional evenings, there's plenty of time for you to sample what our favorite restaurants have to offer.

Happy Holidays!
