Dine On A Budget: French Quarter

New Orleans is known for its tasty food, but we know eating out every meal can get expensive! We’re here to show you how to eat delicious dishes without breaking your bank. Today, we’ve set a $50 food budget (per person not including alcohol) in the French Quarter.

For breakfast, head to Café Beignet on Royal Street, where you can get an order of beignets (3 per order) for just $3.99 plus tax and get a free café au lait with your order! Bonus: Get it to-go and take a short stroll to Jackson Square as you enjoy pastries! View their entire menu.

After you’ve worked up an appetite strolling through Jackson Square and perusing the French Market, enjoy a leisurely lunch at Bourbon Heat. You’re sure to enjoy tasty food and plenty of  atmosphere – we recommend taking advantage of their courtyard. Their lunch menu offers several options for $12 or under.

Our choices:

  • · Red Beans & Rice ($8.75!  add mouthwatering sausage for an additional $3.75.)
  • · Breaux Bridge Blackened Chicken & Smashed Potatoes: a boneless chicken breast with a Cajun spiced rub on it grilled to perfection. ($11.75)
  • · Creole Pasta: penne pasta tossed in tomato-based Creole Sauce ($8.75)
  • · Alligator Sausage Po-Boy ($10.25)

Check out their entire menu.

For dinner, you can’t beat Huck Finn’s on Decatur Street just steps from the Mississippi River. The exposed brick and wood add a rustic charm while the food is a perfect combination of Creole and Cajun.

Our choices:

  • Alligator Sauce Piquante: Sauteed alligator in a spicy Cajun sauce consisting of tomatoes, poblano chile peppers, sauteed onions, bell peppers and celery. ($16.95)
  • Jambalaya "Capt. Drew's Famous Recipe" : Cajun style rice dish prepared with chicken, tasso and grilled andouille sausage. Topped with with fresh green onions and served with French bread. ($13.95)
  • A Taste Of New Orleans : Crawfish Etouffee, Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, served with French bread. Sorry, no substitutions. ($16.95)
