Royal Street - Best Restaurants

Royal StreetRoyal Street is one of the oldest and best-known streets in New Orleans.  It dates back to the French Colonial era, but is well-known for its antique shops and art galleries, along with its lovely wrought iron-laced balconies. Royal Street is a balanced mixture of residences and commerce - a veritable gumbo of styles, tastes and flavors. Our favorite restaurants on Royal Street mirror this by offering a variety of delicious dishes with something to please every palate.

Brennan's Restaurant is known for creating Bananas Foster and its reputation is solidly rooted in producing the finest New Orleans cuisine. When visiting for brunch, try the Eggs Sardou. It's poached eggs on artichoke bottoms and creamed spinach covered in Hollandaise. It's a rich, decadent and delicious way to start any day.

Cafe Amelie is a quiet establishment nestled a sleepy courtyard. The menu is interesting and modern but also includes variations of Louisiana classics. When visiting for dinner, be sure to try the Niman Ranch pork chop dish featuring a thick pork chop, black-eyed pea cassoulet and wilted greens. It's a savory and satisfying dish.

The Court of Two Sisters hosts a daily brunch buffet in their historic courtyard with live jazz. Nightly a la carte dinner is also offered. When there for brunch, sample the veal grillades and gravy. It's a savory Creole red sauce with simmered veal cutlets. Try it over corn grits, and you're sure to leave much happier than when you arrived!

Royal House Oyster Bar opened in 2008 in the former Tortorici's space (an historic French Quarter restaurant). While known for its raw bar, Royal House Oyster Bar also boasts an extensive menu of New Orleans classics like po'boys, seafood platters, shrimp Creole and crawfish étouffée. While you're visiting for dinner, be sure to try some charbroiled oysters from the raw bar. C'est bon!

In closing, we're happy to announce that this post kicks off a multi-week series featuring our favorite restaurants on main streets in the French Quarter. In the coming weeks we'll feature Decatur, Bourbon and Chartres streets. The French Quarter is a special place in New Orleans, and we're thrilled to share these restaurant gems with you.
