Christmas Concerts at the St. Louis Cathedral

St. Louis CathedralWith the holiday season in full swing, Christmas is just around the corner. To further the festive holiday spirit, many people here in New Orleans are attending Christmas concerts at the St. Louis Cathedral, located in the heart of the French Quarter. This concert series is free and open to the public and features some of New Orleans's best and brightest musical talent.

This year's concerts started at the beginning of December and will run through December 20th. While several concerts have passed already, more are still to come such as harpist Rachel Van Voorhees, Don Vappie, Lars Edegran's Jaxx Band and many others. Each concert starts at 6:00 pm, unless otherwise noted on the schedule, and concerts typically last one hour.  For a full listing of concerts you can visit the Cathedral's main website or call 504.525.9585 (ext.135 or 121).

Along with the normal roster of concerts, on December 13 the historic Cathedral is hosting a special Christmas Organ Spectacular featuring Samuel Liégeon, the Cathedral's Young Artist in residence.  The concert will feature an all-French Christmas carol repertoire based on Mr. Liégeon's superior organ skills.  This event is the marquee concert of the series and is one not to be missed.

Attending these delightful evening concerts is sure to work up a dinner appetite, so while you're in the French Quarter, be sure to check out some of our favorite restaurants for dinner.  All of these restaurants are within a couple blocks of the Cathedral and offer a variety of cuisines and dining settings.
