Visit New Orleans and try not to eat a po-boy. We dare you.
In all seriousness, the po-boy is a New Orleans staple, and there are plenty of places to order a good one. If you’re in town this weekend though, you have to go to the Oak Street Po-Boy Festival. Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. some of the best restaurants in the city will set up along one street to serve up some fantastic po-boys.
Here are the five po-boys we’re looking forward to trying out the most:
- Fried Maine Lobster Po-boy from GW Fins
- Oyster Rockefeller Po-boy from Oceana Grill
- Original BBQ Shrimp Po-boy from Pascal’s Manale
- The BBQ Oyster Po-boy from Red Fish Grill
- Roasted Duck Po-nini from Red Fish Grill
Okay, we know that last one isn’t technically a po-boy…but that’s what interests us. A Po-nini? Come on. We have to try that. There will also be other creative po-boy options, like smothered rabbit, shanghai shrimp, okra, and Caribbean catfish.
There will also be live music on two separate stages throughout the day. Since setting up these stages directly on Oak Street has caused some congestion in years past, they will be set up on nearby side streets this year.
Between the po-boys and music, be sure to stop in and support the shops along Oak Street. Many of them will be offering special discounts throughout the festival, so it’s the perfect time to shop if you’re looking for a deal. Christmas is also right around the corner, so you can get some holiday shopping done too!
We’ll be posting updates and pictures from the festival to our Facebook page Sunday, so be sure to like our page if you haven’t already!
