Restaurants open on Christmas

Posted on: December 13 2013 | Posted in: Restaurants

Between opening gifts, keeping up with the kids and traveling to see family, not everyone has time to cook a massive, elegant meal on Christmas. That’s okay.

For those of you who would rather have someone else spend time in the kitchen, there are some great restaurants open for business on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the city. The places listed below are our recommendations.

Word of advice: We’re giving you this list now as opposed to later because you will need to make a reservation at most of these places. Since many restaurants are not open on holidays, tables at the restaurants that are (especially the good ones like these) fill up quickly. If you call to make a reservation and it’s already booked up, ask if they have a waiting list – many do, and you might be offered a table if there’s a cancellation.

But remember: If you make a reservation and can’t keep it, please call and let the restaurant know. Someone on that restaurant’s waiting list will be grateful.

Restaurants open on Christmas Eve:

Antoine’s - This place is a New Orleans staple. Plus, Santa will be there for lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve!
Broussard’s - A beautiful restaurant that mixes the French and Sicilian cultures through their dishes.
Crescent City Brewhouse - The only microbrewery in the French Quarter. Go here for great beer, po-boys, burgers and more.
GW Fins - Named one of Esquire Magazine’s esteemed "Top 20 best new restaurants in America."  Great seafood.
Kingfish - This restaurant tips its hat to the Huey P. Long Era. It's upscale, yet casual, and serves great cocktails and Louisiana cuisine.
The Pelican Club - Come here for a wide range of French Creole-inspired food and a great atmosphere.
Tujaque’s - The second oldest restaurant in New Orleans, and a local favorite. We recommend the beef brisket po-boys or the shrimp remoulade.

Restaurants open on Christmas Day:

Antoine’s - Santa will be taking a break on Christmas Day, but Antoine's will still be serving up some delicious food. Try something off their special Reveillon menu.
7 on Fulton - If you're looking for something more contemporary, then this is your best option. Sleek design and unusual, delicious dishes is what you'll get here.
Andrea’s - Located in Metarie, this restaurant has been earning awards for over 25 years for its Northern Italian, American and seafood entrees.
Broussard’s - With a beautiful courtyard and great food, this place is very New Orleans.
Tujaque’s - Yes, this New Orleans favorite is open on both Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day. That's two chances to dine here for the holiday!

If you’re looking for something to do before or after dinner, then give Gray Line tours a call. They are open on Christmas Day and can show you around New Orleans. Walking tours, swamp tours, group tours, city tours, steamboat cruises… it’s your choice.
