Let Them Eat King Cake!

Everyone knows New Orleans is foodie heaven, but Mardi Gras season adds a whole new delicious layer—the King Cake. Sweet, doughy bread decorated with purple, green, and gold sugar isn’t the only reason we love the season, but it’s one of our favorites. Did we mention some of these tasty treats come filled with cream cheese, fruit, or flavors like cinnamon?

Some of our favorite restaurants are serving their own King Cake this season, while others have concocted other King Cake inspired deserts.

Brennan’s: A New Orleans institution since 1956, Brennan’s has a gift for creating its own take on traditional dishes. This Mardi Gras season they’re at it again with a “Brioche Cinnamon King Cake” complete with royal icing and crème anglaise. Don’t just take our word for it, you should try this heavenly dish yourself!

Court of Two Sisters: Known for their legendary jazz brunch, this elegant yet fun establishment marches to the beat of its own drum, including serving King Cake year-round. That’s right; their tasty take on this Mardi Gras delight can be found on their jazz brunch buffet any time of year.

Red Fish Grill: The award-winning Red Fish Grill is no stranger to taking risks, and their King Cake bread pudding is one worth trying. The warm, gooey bread and a sweet, succulent flavor will have you begging for seconds.

Suis Generis: Located in the trendy Bywater neighborhood, Suis Generis is known for a constantly evolving menu—using fresh, local ingredients. Now, they’ve conquered Mardi Gras with their own homemade King Cake ice cream. Combining two of our favorite desserts has us jumping for joy.

Tony Moran’s: Cemented in tradition and serving some of the finest seafood, Tony Moran’s is known as the Oasis on Bourbon. So of course, they are taking part in one of New Orleans most famous traditions by serving King Cake on their Mardi Gras buffet the week of the big event.

Deanie's Seafood: Save room for desert! Deanie's is known for their huge portions of crabs, crawfish, shrimp and oysters that are boiled or fried to perfection and now they're serving up king cake too. King Cake Doberge will be served in the main dining room throughout Carnival season. 

Cello's: Randazzo's freshly-baked king cakes could, quite possibly be the most delicious in the city. The decades old family recipe brings Manny Randazzo's passion for New Orleans and Mardi Gras to life. Grab a slice at our favorite neighborhood deli, Cello's.
