A Visit To Broussard’s In The French Quarter

November 23 2012 | Restaurants

Broussard's CourtyardThere are a lot of delectable restaurants to choose from in New Orleans. On a recent weekday afternoon some of the crew behind NewOrleansRestaurants.com stopped by Broussard’s in the French Quarter to experience the mix of historic architecture, classic food and tradition. For some of us it was a regular favorite, for others it was our first time there - but surely not the last.

Broussard’s first opened its doors in the Vieux Carré in 1920. A number of famous guests have passed through their doors on Conti Street to dine and take part in the exciting events there over the years. These well-known guests include A-list Hollywood celebrities, local and national politicians, dignitaries from all over the world, Mardi Gras royalty and even literary figures like Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner.

Everyone from celebrities to tourists in town for the first time have enjoyed a menu of that blends like the culture of the city - French, Spanish, Indian, Caribbean, Acadian (Cajun) and Creole.

Broussard'sOur favorites started with the Turtle Soup Au Sherry, spicy soup balanced out with a mild sweetness to make one amazing appetizer.

The most popular entrée on the menu during our visit was the Filet Of Beef Brandon which is a 28-day aged filet mignon grilled with braised red onions, Tabasco onion straw and sauce au poivre. Mouthwatering good! However, the hand-harvested scallops grilled with Andouille and mushroom fricassee is another must try on the menu.

If you have a room for a side, try the Truffle fries & Horseradish truffle dill sauce. These are definitely not your average fries.

Dessert is a toss-up between Bananas Foster and Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake. Both are delicious so it’s a win/win with either menu item.

Broussard’s is located at 819 Rue Conti in the French Quarter (New Orleans, LA 70112) and reservations can be made at (504) 581-3866. The restaurant is available to host private parties and weddings.
