Festival Season – Food Stand Favorites and Hidden Gems
By: Marica Mackenroth
With the coming of Fall, people in New Orleans and surrounding areas now have a wealth of fairs and festivals to fill up their weekends.
Whether it be Oktober Fest, Voodoo Music Festival, various art festivals, Renaissance Festival and more, you are pretty much promised to encounter various fried foods, rice dishes and hopefully a great selection of drinks.
It depends on the person as to what the general favorites are amongst fair dishes, but items like funnel cake, single serving pizzas and jambalaya are very popular. At times, some people choose to consume whatever type food has the shortest line, usually a poor choice in retrospect.
The next time you are at one of these festivals, try to extend your experience by trying different or new food. Personally, I find some of the vegetarian options, such as veggie fajitas, a tasty choice in keeping me going throughout the day. Alligator on a stick is an excellent “off the beaten path” selection, as well, from what I hear.
If you time it right, you shouldn’t be in line for too long, and who knows? Maybe you can find a new favorite food.
