Christmas and New Year’s Eves aboard the Steamboat Natchez

Steamboat NatchezDecember is a festive time of year here in New Orleans.  The city is bustling with a variety of activities from dining to shopping to concerts.  The height of the festivities occur a mere week apart on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.  Many people traditionally spend these evenings gathered with loved ones, friends and family, whether at home or out and about. If you’re looking for something different to do this year, check out the Steamboat Natchez. It’s hosting special celebrations those evenings, and it’s definitely worth checking out.

The Steamboat Natchez is one of the last steamboats left in New Orleans. It berths at the Toulouse Street wharf on the Mississippi River behind the Jax Brewery. The Natchez has been running since 1975 but is actually the ninth steamer to bear the name.  She’s a top of the line vessel that cruises up and down a part of the Mississippi River that gives New Orleans its nickname of “The Crescent City.”

On both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the Steamboat Natchez is offering upscale multi-course dinners. The Christmas Eve menu is five courses featuring delectable items such as prime rib, pecan-crusted red fish, winter vegetable terrine and roasted beet salad.  The New Year’s Eve menu also has five courses and features mouth-watering favorites like pork loin, duck à l’orange, Hoppin’ John, Bananas Foster and seafood gumbo.

Along with fantastic meals and sublime views of the city, patrons will enjoy musical entertainment while on each cruise.  The Christmas Eve dinner features Duke Heitgers’ Steamboat Stompers Trio.  On New Year’s Eve, revelers will be treated to the Oak Alley Dance Band.  As a bonus, the New Year’s Eve dinner cruise features an open premium bar, and offers ideal views of the city’s New Year’s Eve fire works extravaganza.
