Margie Perez (vocalist)

Lobby Atrium of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Stephen Goldring Hall

Margie Perez is a dynamic and vivacious performer specializing in a versatile blend of Blues, Pop, New Orleans Funk, and Latin music. Her infectious tune "Ooh Baby La La" won First place in the Pop category of the Songwriter's Association of Washington's 14th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song contest. She proudly makes New Orleans her home now, and has put together a great band, The Groovy Blues, with whom she performs at clubs, festivals, and parties. They performed at Carnival Latina in 2007, and at the 2007 and 2008 Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festivals. As well as singing backup for the powerful blues diva Marva Wright, New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint invited her to sing backup for him at the 2007 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Margie also performed at JazzFest 2007 as a member of the Afro-Cuban percussion ensemble Michael Skinkus and Moyuba. You can hear her on the...

Rick Trolsen & Gringo do Choro (brazilian latin)

Lobby Atrium of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Stephen Goldring Hall

Largely self-taught, Rick began playing trombone at the age of twelve. After studying with Phil Wilson at Berklee College of Music, he volunteered three years of duty with the U.S. Navy Band, stationed in New Orleans. From 1991 to 1998 he led the jazz/rock group ”Neslort” as a vehicle for his original compositions. A favorite for four consecutive years at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, “Neslort” featured some of the finest musicians in town, and recorded two CD’s.

In 2003, Rick traveled to Rio de Janeiro to record “Gringo Do Choro”, which features primarily Choro music from the early part of the 20th century, with a few Bossas and Samba's thrown in. It wasn’t until after hurricane Katrina that he recorded the music of New Orleans. In 2006 & 2007, he released “New Orleans Lullaby” and “Sunrise on Bourbon Street.” As a freelance trombonist, Rick ...

G.G. Shinn in collaboration with Ponderosa Stomp Foundation (swamp pop)

Lobby Atrium of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Stephen Goldring Hall

There are musicians and there are entertainers. But, it is a true phenomenon when a really great musician is also a great entertainer. This singer, horn player and dynamic stage persona never fails to have the audience begging for more. In 1956, G.G. started his first band, "The Flat Tops", in his hometown of Franklin, Louisiana. In 1963, he joined "The Boogie Kings" and his professional career began. Their album, recorded in 1965, is a highly sought after collector's item. In 1966, G.G. formed "The Rollercoasters" and recorded two R&B albums. A move to Los Angeles provided a new opportunity. It was there that the group "Chase" hired G.G. to record an album. Completed in only one week, the album was nominated for a Grammy award in 1972 and G.G.'s reputation as a great musician grew. After performin...
