Why go south of the border for authentic Mexican cuisine when you can just go to La Casita on the Patio in New Orleans Arts/Warehouse District, also known as the “SoHo of the South.”
Chef Justin Bruhl is doing wonderful things by combining fresh ingredients with fresh thinking. Bruhl comes from stints at celebrity chef Mario Batali’s restaurants on the East Coast and at Compere Lapin and Maypop here in New Orleans. He also runs the pop-up Matchbook Kitchen at Barrel Proof in the Lower Garden District.
The two-story restaurant offers “elevated” Mexican cuisine downstairs and event space upstairs – ideal for rehearsal dinners, anniversary parties and corporate gatherings. Outside, you can find a seat in the large outdoor patio where they offer a casual small-plate menu. Along with tacos and queso, come savor duck meatballs with peanut mole, chorizo verde boudin balls, mussels steamed in tequila and lime, chicharones, and grilled octopus.
The bar stocks a large selection of tequila and mescal. Drop by for daily happy hours from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to midnight.
