There’s much to love about Café Degas, a romantic eatery named after the famous French impressionist Edgar Degas, who lived with relatives just down the street at 2306 Esplanade Avenue in 1872.
Café Degas offers authentic Gallic cuisine from French Chef Laurent Rochereux in a French Bistro atmosphere with a pinch of New Orleans. What should you order? They offer some wonderful appetizers, including a paté board with house-made smooth and country patés with garlic and dry saucissons (cured salty pork sticks), fig mustard and cornichons. We can personally vogue for their French Onion Soup with croutons and bubbly Swiss, and we can’t say enough about the Pan-seared Rack of Lamb and Lamb Merguez Sausage. Along with their regular menu, check out the chalkboard for some fabulous specials.
At Café Degas, you can also enjoy prix fixe menus Wednesday through Friday at lunch and Wednesdays only at dinner. Get 20% off a bottle of wine when you order prix fixe.
They also offer an inspired happy hour and brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday. Drop in for egg specials, grits and grillades, Belgian Waffles, Crabmeat and Asparagus crepes and $5 glasses of sparkling wine or Mimosas.
OpenTable dinners selected Café Degas as one of the best restaurants in 2017. It has also been named French Restaurant of the Year by myneworleans.com and Favorite Budget Friendly Restaurant by Country Roads.
