This hip little eatery in HI New Orleans hostel on Canal Street is proof once again that New Orleans can take any kind of cuisine and make it its own. At TaCreole Cafe, Latin meets Creole and, while your taste buds may not know whether to second-line or conga, they will be doing a happy dance.
TaCreole offers street-style tacos with a Creole twist. Start with a local beer or a house sangria served with Chips and Creole Salsa or Cajun Guac. Then comes the hard part ¬– choosing between tacos with a variety of Creole-inspired fillings, wrapped in a masa tortilla. Your options include Blackened Redfish, Alligator Chorizo, NOLA BBQ Shrimp, Brisket “Debris,” Crispy Gulf Oyster, Cochon de Lait, and Fried Green Tomato.
The menu has a “Not-Taco” section that’s pretty intriguing as well. If you can pass up the Boudin Flautas, the Street Corn Fritters, or the Shrimp Creole Empanada, you’ve got more will power than the rest of us.
Think you’ve had enough? Not so fast. You’re going to want to make room for dessert and coffee. Options include Bananas Foster Churros with Foster Rum Sauce and Chocolate Hand Pies. The java is roasted right here in New Orleans, too.
TaCreole is open for lunch and dinner every day of the week. They have a Rush Hour Special where you can get $1 off special tacos, gumbo, and salad between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. They also have Happy Hour Specials between 5 and 7 p.m.
